The photoshoot  will take place within your home or garden. If you’d like to discuss an alternate location, please let us know. We’ve also had stunning shoots take place in parklands, botanic gardens, on the coast and parents-in-laws homes!

Maternity shoots generally take place between 32 – 36 weeks, however we are happy to photograph you whenever you feel comfortable (enough!). Some clients prefer to wait until the very end of their pregnancy when their bump is nice and round, others schedule it for anytime during the third trimester. It all depends on how you’re feeling in your pregnancy.

In the right hands, analogue images have an authentic, elevated feel only film can capture. In particular, black and white film in the context of “family photos” heightens that nostalgic feeling of timelessness and history in the making.

Studio Day Dot always shoots simultaneously on film and digitally so no moment is missed.

No, but they can be. Our standard package includes the delivery of high resolution digital files of the film shots once they have been processed and scanned by a specialist photo lab in Melbourne.

If you would like some favourite images from our session printed, we offer an additional service of fine art printing and/or framing you can learn more about here.

Absolutely not. Whilst a lot of our clients are keen to document moments of skin-on-skin with their children, there are many ways to do this while being comfortable and remaining true to yourself. This is also true for maternity shoots – we will be guided by what makes you feel the most comfortable and like yourself, whether that’s in a bra and undies or fully clothed. It’s up to you.

There are always moments worth capturing no matter the mood. Feeds, snacks, toys and changing up the environment ensures that both you and your kids feel more comfortable and in control. Sometimes the best images are created in the moments you would least expect them to be. Nappy changes, toddlers running around, even tears all become about the art. No matter what happens on the day, we’ll work it out.

(making sure tummies are full just before we start always helps!)

We fully understand life can sometimes get in the way. Your session fee is transferable to another session date, however as we only take on very limited sessions each month it is not refundable.

Once we decide on a date together you will be sent an invoice for 50% of your session fee. This needs to be paid upon receipt in order to secure your booking. The remainder of the package payment is due 24 hours prior to our session time. Any premium additions (i.e. extra edited photos) you may decide to add on are invoiced separately. Payment plans are also available! Just let us know that this is your preference.

We will happily curate your photo selection for you if you don’t have the time, simply can’t refine your choices or would just prefer not to!

We also offer a premium option of adding extra photographs to be edited and delivered (priced per 5 photos) which you can decide to add to your package after the shoot once you view your digital contact sheet.

Maternity shoots run for up to 45 minutes, and family shoots generally for up to 60 minutes.

Once your image selections are received by us, we endeavor to deliver your full suite of images within 4 weeks. If you have a pressing timeline for any reason please let us know in advance.

You will receive a downloadable PDF session guide as to how to best prepare for your shoot  – minimal effort required!

Unfortunately, Studio Day Dot does not currently offer mini sessions.

Authentically capturing parents in their own environment or outdoors amongst nature plays a significant role in the high-quality photography outcomes we deliver. Finding this intimacy and vulnerability is challenging to replicate in a studio environment with limited time and privacy – it takes time to create a connection with our clients, settle into a rhythm together and find the perfect moment. There is also something powerful to be said about an implicit ease you have in your own home.

Absolutely. Your partner is welcome to be there for the whole shoot, or drift in and out when it feels right.

You do not have to breastfeed in front of the camera – this is completely up to you and something we will discuss on the day. It is important to note that bottle-feeding is also a beautiful and worthwhile scene to capture between parent and child. Or no feeding at all!

No, not at this time.

Yes! This is a very popular option. We offer a special two photoshoot package titled “The Birth of a Parent” for clients who would like to capture both stages of their parenthood journey – before and after birth.

Not a question, but a comment we’ve received countless times. Please do not worry as there is absolutely no right or wrong way to look or be. You’ll be surprised by how your session evolves into being about much more than receiving a set of photos, but slowing down, being present and simply enjoying your loved ones.

Yes it can be. Your session fee will be transferred to the soonest open date available. Generally unless the weather is dangerously windy or torrential, we usually proceed with the session even if the weather is less than ideal. You’d be surprised how special the images turn out even on an “imperfect” day. If it’s looking dicey, we’ll be in touch via text.

Never without your permission. It’s incredible when a client allows us to use an image or two from their shoot to promote the work, but you will always be asked for your consent. If you’d prefer us not to, we will always understand and respect this.
